I found an injured/orphaned animal - What should I do?


INJURY

- If the animal is not in immanent danger of further injury or predation, do not move the animal until an assessment can be made - if there is an obvious injury causing bleeding get immediate help by calling the Sanctuary or a Veterinarian - In all cases, keep the animal warm by covering with a blanket or towel - If the bleeding can be staunched without any danger of injury to yourself then place a compress over the affected area, applying pressure. DO NOT try this if there is ANY chance of the animal biting or clawing! - Keep any unnecessary human contact with the animal – tell the gawkers to go away! - Keep in a warm dry place - Do not try to feed the animal - CALL US! Once the animal is stabilized contact the Sanctuary 705 732-6368 or 705 644-4122


ORPHANED


- unless the animal is in dire need, LEAVE IT ALONE for a reasonable period of time to be absolutely certain that its mother is not going to return - keep the animal warm, in a dark and very quiet place - do not try to feed the animal - DO NOT GIVE COW’S MILK – most baby mammals are intolerant and may die as a result of receiving cow’s milk - if the animal appears to be in shock (white gums, paws) administer a small amount of lukewarm water by syringe - after any kind of input gently massage the tummy to encourage output CALL US! 705 732-6368 or 705 644-4122
